For frequently recurring cold sores

Cold sores (herpes labialis) are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). Especially by type 1 (HSV-1, more rarely HSV-2). The virus cannot be cured and remains in the body for life. In Germany around 90% * of the population carry the HSV-1 virus. After the initial infection, which usually occurs in childhood and is often symptom-free, the viruses remain in the ganglia (accumulation of nerve cell bodies). There they evade the immune system and remain in a state of rest. Certain triggers (triggering stimuli) lead to a reactivation. A reactivation can be triggered several times over the year. The viruses migrate to the surface of the skin and cause painful lip sores at the transition between the lip and the skin of the face. ACICLOVIR AL cream can relieve pain and itching,

Targeted against viruses

Cold sores are treated with herpes-specific antiviral drugs (virus statics), which intervene directly in the virus' mechanisms of reproduction. Virus replication is selectively prevented. Acyclovir is activated primarily in cells that have been infected with the herpes virus.

RECOMMENDED USE:
ACICLOVIR AL cream is applied thinly to the infected skin areas 5 times a day every 4 hours during the day. To avoid contact with the infectious blister, it is recommended to apply the cream with a cotton swab. It should be noted that not only directly visible areas of the skin (redness, swelling, blisters), but also adjacent areas should be treated. If it is applied by hand, it should be washed thoroughly before and after. Early treatment is important

It is advisable that those affected use the cream as soon as they feel a slight tingling or tingling sensation. Virus replication takes place mainly in the first 48 hours. By applying z. B. ACICLOVIR AL cream, virus replication can be specifically combated and contained.


Hygiene - avoid transmission The viruses are located directly at the infected area, but also in the saliva. A cold sore infection is usually transmitted directly from one person to another. Indirect infection through infected objects such as glasses, cutlery and napkins is also possible. Hygiene measures such as frequent hand washing are particularly important. Recognize and avoid triggers

What are the typical signs of cold sores?
Herpes often announces itself before the actual outbreak. Typical early signs include feelings of tension and numbness, tingling and itching, stinging and burning, and reddening of the skin in the affected area.

How long can ACICLOVIR AL cream be used?
In general, the duration of treatment is 5 days. After 10 days of treatment at the latest, the blisters should be crusted or healed. If this is not the case, the treatment should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted. This also applies if the skin symptoms worsen during treatment.

Are warnings and precautionary measures to be observed?
ACICLOVIR AL cream must not be applied to mucous membranes (e.g. in the oral cavity, on the eyes or in the vagina), as local irritation symptoms are to be expected.

Patients with a severe disorder of the body's immune system (e.g. AIDS or after a bone marrow transplant) should discuss the treatment with a doctor in advance.

The active ingredient acyclovir is hardly absorbed by the body after it is applied to the skin. Thus, the dose that the nursing child would ingest while breastfeeding is low. Breastfeeding women should ensure that the breastfed child does not come into contact with the treated body regions. Pregnant women should consult a doctor before starting treatment.
