The milk thistle (Silybum marianum) also called female thistle or Marienkorn contains the substances silymarin, flavonoids, essential oils and resins. Silymarin is only found in fruits and protects, strengthens and detoxifies the liver.

The silymarin contained in the fruits has the following functions:

Liver protection:
The liver is the central metabolic organ of the human organism and is accordingly exposed to various damaging influences such as alcohol, drugs or environmental influences. Silymarin stimulates the regeneration of liver cells and thus promotes the liver's regenerative powers.

Digestive tract:
Since silymarin promotes the liver's ability to regenerate and so the bile, which is important for digestion, can be formed, the milk thistle also stimulates digestion.

Radical scavengers:
Silymarin also protects the cell from free radicals.
