Supplementary feed for animals

Finest American elm bark "Slippery Elm Bark". Not to be confused with the mostly cheaply offered European field elm. The slippery elm bark grows primarily in southern North America, North Dakota, Canada and western Texas. The part of this tree that is used medicinally is the inner bark, which contains mucus. Sugars (long chain), also called polysaccharides, form a smooth substance when in contact with water.

What is elm bark good for?

Native Americans used slippery elm in healing salves for wounds, boils, ulcers, burns, and skin inflammation. It was also taken orally to relieve coughs, sore throats, diarrhea, and stomach problems. Slippery elm contains mucilage, a substance that becomes a slick gel when mixed with water.

Ingredients:
Elm bark (Ulmus fulva/rubra) with no other additives.
According to the Novel Food Regulation, elm bark is only permitted as a supplementary feed for animals, such as dogs and cats.

Application:
Prepare elm bark tea by pouring about a quarter liter of cold water over 2 teaspoons of elm bark, heating the whole thing to the boil and then straining it.

For cats: 1.5 g of elm bark daily Internally: Mix elm bark powder with lukewarm water in a syringe and give it to the animal's mouth after swelling. An overdose is not possible because elm bark is a very mild agent. For this reason you can give this mixture up to 6 times a day. The last dose before going to bed is particularly important, as the stomach cannot take in any new food and can relax during this time.

For dogs: dogs up to 5 kg body weight 1.5 g daily; dogs up to 15 kg body weight 3 g daily; dogs up to 30 kg body weight 6 g daily; dogs over 30 kg body weight 9 g daily;

Due to the new EU legislation of the Novel Food Regulation, the article is only approved as a supplementary feed for cats and dogs.
