Sputolysin from Boehringer Ingelheim is used to liquefy thick mucus in respiratory diseases , such as catarrhal inflammations of the upper respiratory tract or bronchitis. The bronchosecretolytic Sputolysin contains the active ingredient dembrexin . Dembrexin has a secretolytic and secretomotor effect .

The active ingredient liquefies the bronchial secretion. This makes coughing up thick and stuck mucus easier . The easier removal of the secretion from the alveoli supports the performance of the lungs. 1 gram of Sputolysin powder contains 5 mg of the active ingredient dembrexin hydrochloride x 1 H2O.

The use and dosage for Sputolysin

With Sputolysin you are buying a powder for horses to take orally. You can stir Sputolysin powder for horses into the feed. The recommended dosage is 30 grams of Sputolysin powder per 500 kg of body weight . One level measuring spoon corresponds to 5 grams of Sputolysin powder .

Sputolysin is administered twice daily , with an interval of twelve hours between each dose. The powder is usually administered over several days . You should not administer Sputolysin to your horse for longer than five days without the advice of your veterinarian. Sputolysin 840 g should be kept out of the reach of children.

What should be considered when using Sputolysin powder?

During treatment with Sputolysin, nasal discharge increases, the dry cough becomes moister and the frequency of coughing decreases. These effects are desirable when using Sputolysin. Owners of sport horses should note that a doping test will be positive when using Dembrexin. You should therefore observe a seven-day waiting period .

In which cases should Sputolysin not be used?

Sputolysin must not be used in cases of pulmonary edema, impaired bronchomotor function or impaired liver or kidney function. Sputolysin should not be used in lactating mares whose milk is intended for human consumption. The simultaneous use of cough suppressant veterinary medicines should be avoided as this can cause a build-up of secretions in the bronchi.
