Batsu! is based on a punishment Japanese game show. It was developed by a comedy group during the pandemic lockdown and they took their show and made it into a fun and exciting card game.

In Batsu! you have a Challenge card and tasks have to be performed on the card. You don't have to do a great job, just have to do a better job than the worst person in the group.

In Batsu! there is only one loser and the loser each round has to perform a batsu, which means punishment in Japanese. These punishments vary wildly from removing a sock and talking through your sock puppet for the rest of the game to singing a song while gargling, this may involve gargling beer for some play groups or it can be water or any liquid.

This highly incentivises player engagement and motivates players to try their best to avoid the punishments.
