Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is not an inflammation as we know it from tonsillitis, for example, but a miscolonization of the vagina with bacteria that are bad for the vagina. Bacterial vaginosis, also known as Gardnerella infection, amine vaginitis or Haemophilus vaginalis infection, is therefore not a classic (contagious) sexually transmitted disease, but a bacterial imbalance in the vaginal flora. The germs are transmitted back and forth through sexual intercourse. However, the recipient of the germs does not necessarily have to suffer from bacterial vaginosis.
