Film nasal spray contains alpha-tocopherol acetate (vitamin E acetate) in a special formulation. The spray is oily and reminds a little of olive oil. Sprayed into the nose, you will feel the effect within about five minutes: with hay fever, the symptoms of nasal congestion, sneezing, itching and runny nose disappear.

The first assumption was that nasal films create a barrier between mucosa and pollen; hence the name "films" for the film on the mucosa. This barrier mechanism would protect against contact of pollen with mucosa.

Nasal films also work after the pollen has reached the nose and started the hay fever (allergic rhinitis). So it can't be a barrier (alone). There are two more theoretical possibilities:

Films nasale has a "calming" effect on the diseased mucous membrane; the symptoms go away. This mechanism sounds impressive and at least probable, because the preparations Vea and Films have already shown in other indications that their vitamin E acetate has a beneficial effect on the skin (Vea) and mucous membranes (films).

There is also the possibility that Nasal Film Spray renders the pollen harmless by "attacking" its outer protein coat and changing its structure. Then the pollen could no longer "enter" the mucous membrane. If this mechanism were to be confirmed, it would be an extremely interesting and new mode of action against pollen allergy. A project on this question is in preparation.

Does Nasal Film also have an effect on other allergies that are not caused by pollen?
This is unknown. The effect on pollen allergies has been confirmed; The pollen of early flowering trees in particular are very strong allergens (hazel, alder, birch) and many people are sensitized accordingly. Experiences with other allergens are still pending. We are of course very interested to hear from you whether you have also used nasal films for other allergens.

House dust mites, cat dander and some occupational allergens can trigger allergic rhinitis in appropriate patients all year round. There is no reference to the season here. That makes the diagnosis more difficult. Since films nasale have no side effects, a trial therapy attempt is obvious; At this point, however, we would like to warn against refraining from the therapy prescribed by the doctor on your own.

Films nasale can be used as a supplement before the doctor decides to discontinue the standard treatment. Another note: Maternity leave comes before therapy. Anyone who is allergic to cat dander can do without the cat better than accepting an aggravation of the disease or side effects of the drug treatment.

Are there any side effects?
Side effects against films nasal are not known. It is a new drug. However, Nasal Films contains the active ingredient that has been tried and tested for many years in other indications. At this point a note: The producer of Vea and film products is a pediatrician who is very innovative with alternative treatments in the sense of mild and natural substances.

The classic drugs cortisone and antihistamines, on the other hand, do have side effects. As is so often the case, the benefits far outweigh the risks, which is why doctors have good reason to prescribe these drugs. On the other hand: If there is something that helps and does not harm...?

You determine the amount and frequency of application yourself. Depending on the weather, pollen count, personal hobbies and complaints, spray more or less film into both nostrils. Pull the medication up, lie on your back, or tilt your head back. Wipe the nose with a fine paper handkerchief if some oil should run out to the front.

You are welcome to continue taking your current medication. In most cases, however, this will not be necessary.

Please note that Films Nasal Spray cannot help with allergic asthma! In addition, make sure to continue the treatment for a few days after the end of the season to prevent the well-known development of further allergies. Occasional nasal rinsing with salt water or a saline spray can also be useful.

Film Opht-R eye drops are available in pharmacies to treat conjunctivitis, the conjunctivitis of the eyes. If necessary, drip this into the eye - preferably while lying down - and then blink for a few minutes until a very fine film has settled on the eye. If there are any drops, wipe the rest off your face with the fine cloth.

Hay fever in children is not always recognized immediately. When children find it difficult to breathe through their nose, the parents speak of a "cold". The idea of ​​an allergic disease is initially more likely to come from the parents who suffer from hay fever themselves. Bouts of sneezing, runny nose and rubbing your eyes finally lead you on the right track.

If your child has been diagnosed with seasonal allergic rhinitis, you should inform the doctor treating you about nasal films. He will then decide whether conventional therapy, an accompanying treatment with nasal films or only nasal films should be used.

Adenoid hyperplasia
A scientific study is currently underway to test the effectiveness of alpha-tocopherol acetate as a nasal film on enlarged tonsils (commonly known as "polyps"). Children between the ages of two and eight are usually affected.

The adenoid lies in the crease between the nose and throat at a strategically important point. When inhaled, for example with viruses in kindergarten, the tonsils literally swell and take up a large space in the nasopharynx. This ultimately blocks nasal breathing, the function of the auditory tube suffers and snoring occurs at night: the child has to "work" at night to get air.

So the children offer the typical picture:

• repeated middle ear infections
• language development delay
• Snoring, often with nocturnal breathing pauses

In this large number of children, surgical removal of the pharyngeal tonsils (under general anesthesia) is then suggested. This operation removes the enlarged tonsils, allows the auditory tube to ventilate the middle ear again and leads to restful and quiet sleep for the child. The children often literally bloom in the first few weeks after the operation.

The question arises whether this operation is really always necessary or whether the adenoid can be reduced in size without an operation. Initial experiences had shown encouraging effects. The sister product Vea oris throat spray has already proven its effectiveness in treating pharyngitis. Film nasale nasal spray is approved for use in the nose and thus reaches the nasopharynx and there the enlarged tonsils of the child.
