The appearance of gray hair is a natural phenomenon and is called canities. It affects a large part of the population and occurs earlier and earlier. Genetic predisposition, age and the environment contribute significantly to this phenomenon.
This graying of the hair results from both a pigment disorder due to a melanin deficiency and a depigmentation of the existing pigments, which is triggered by the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide. In addition to the change in color, gray hair also shows a change in the internal fiber structure: it is more brittle, tends to frizz, is unruly and grows faster.

How does hair pigmentation work?
The color of hair, like that of skin, results from a complex mechanism. Specialized cells, the melanocytes, first synthesize a pigment, melanin, with the help of three key enzymes (tyrosinase, TRP1 and TRP2). This melanin is then transferred to the keratinocytes when the hair shaft is formed, which expresses the color. This entire process of pigmentation is stimulated by a peptide hormone, alpha-MSH, which forms an activating complex by binding to its specific receptor MC1R.

The PHYTO research department has developed a molecule with extensive effectiveness on the repigmentation of gray hair: the peptide RE30.

It works on the hair root in two steps:
