Fast relief from heartburn and reflux symptoms for up to 4 hours. Gaviscon Liquid contains the herbal active ingredient alginate - an extract obtained from the brown algae "Laminaria hyperborea" - and has a purely mechanical effect. The active substance is not absorbed into the bloodstream. Clinical studies on more than 500 pregnant women have not shown any significant effects of the active ingredients on the course of pregnancy or on the health of the newborn. Gaviscon Liquid can be taken while breastfeeding.

In the acidic environment of the stomach, alginate forms a stable alginic acid gel that forms a protective mechanical barrier on the surface of the stomach contents. This prevents acidic stomach contents from rising up into the esophagus and symptoms such as heartburn or acid regurgitation are relieved quickly and for up to 4 hours.

Adults and adolescents from 12 years: One to two sachets after meals and before going to bed or as prescribed (up to four times a day).
Tolerability and safety in pregnancy
Gaviscon Liquid is suitable for use throughout pregnancy from the 1st to the 9th month and while breastfeeding. The active ingredient alginate is not absorbed into the bloodstream, but is excreted again through the intestines after a certain time.

Adults and adolescents from 12 years of age: One to two sachets after meals and at bedtime or as directed (up to four times a day).

Action The alginate in Gaviscon Liquid forms a protective barrier that covers the contents of the stomach like a lid, preventing heartburn and acid reflux. The active ingredient (alginate) is not absorbed into the bloodstream and is excreted naturally.

Gaviscon Liquid relieves symptoms noticeably quickly and has a long-lasting effect of up to 4 hours. Already on the way to the stomach it is perceived as pleasantly cooling in the esophagus.

Vegetable alginate
Gaviscon Liquid is based on the vegetable active ingredient alginate – an extract from the brown algae Laminaria hyperborea. Studies have shown that heartburn in pregnant women after taking alginate decreased significantly both during the day and at night.

Contraindications
Allergy to sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate or any of the other ingredients.

Indications: Treatment of the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux such as acid regurgitation, heartburn, indigestion associated with reflux eg after meals or during pregnancy or in patients with symptoms associated with reflux oesophagitis. 

Warnings: Contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 216), which may cause (possibly delayed) allergic reactions.
