What is vitamin B?

Vitamin B is not a single vitamin, but a whole group of vitamins, also called the vitamin B complex. This is made up of: 8 B vitamins:

B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 ​​(pyridoxine), B7 (biotin), B9 (folic acid) and B12 (cobalamin).

Chemically and in terms of their mode of action, they are very different substances. Only vitamins B3 and B12 can be stored by the body in small quantities. The other B vitamins are water-soluble and are excreted in the urine. Therefore, we rely on regular intake of B vitamins through food or a good dietary supplement.

Vegans in particular rely on the additional intake of vitamin B12 in the form of a dietary supplement, as vitamin B12 is almost only present in animal products through food.
